The GWS 122931 is a 7-flute, solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling applications where tool life and finish quality are critical. Built on the Series 1040 platform, it features a 1/4 inch mill diameter, a 1-1/8 inch length of cut, and a 3 inch overall length. The nACRo coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection suited to hard and abrasive workpiece materials. The 38-degree variable helix geometry reduces harmonic vibration during cutting, enabling more stable passes at higher feed rates. This tool is sized and configured for use on CNC machining centers, manual mills, and high-speed spindle setups across production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where heat generation and tool deflection are primary concerns. The single-end, right-hand cutting configuration makes it a direct fit for standard toolholding systems. Machinists and CNC programmers working with hardened steels, stainless alloys, and high-temp alloys will find the nACRo coating and submicron carbide grade particularly relevant to tool life in demanding cut conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application solid carbide end mill for use in standard 1/4 inch diameter collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholding systems on CNC machining centers and manual vertical mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the recommended gauge line depth in the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges under magnification before use and verify runout at the tool tip with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts.
