The GWS 122830 is a 7-flute solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance finishing in ferrous and hard-material applications. Built from submicron carbide stock with an FX1 coating, it carries a 0.06-inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge and extends tool life in interrupted cuts. The 0.5-inch diameter shank and cutting diameter share an h6 tolerance, ensuring a secure fit in standard end mill holders. Variable helix and variable index geometry minimize harmonic chatter during finishing passes, making this tool a go-to choice for machinists running tight-tolerance work on steel, cast iron, superalloys, and hard materials.
This end mill is suited for finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys and titanium, and hard materials in both production and job-shop environments. The single-end, centercutting design allows plunge entry and full-slot milling where required. A close pitch with 7 flutes increases the number of cutting edges in contact with the workpiece, improving surface finish and material removal rates during light-chip finishing passes. It mounts in standard straight-bore end mill holders and is compatible with CNC machining centers running right-hand spindle rotation.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Secondary workpiece material is stainless steel.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer is in a safe state before inserting or removing the end mill from its holder. Verify holder bore diameter matches the 0.5-inch shank before clamping. Confirm cutting direction is set to right-hand rotation to match the flute geometry before initiating a program cycle.
