The GWS 122823 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations in demanding metalworking applications. Built to Series 1040 standards, it features a 1/2 inch cutting diameter, 1 inch length of cut, and a 0.02 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations and extends tool life at the cutting edge. With 7 flutes and a variable helix, variable index geometry, this end mill promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduced chatter during finishing passes. It is center-cutting capable, allowing plunge entry, and runs in a right-hand cutting direction with a right-hand flute spiral. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments install and run this tool.
The GWS 122823 is suited for finishing passes on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its submicron carbide grade and close-pitch flute configuration make it particularly effective in tight-tolerance finishing where surface finish quality is critical. The straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance fits standard end mill holders. It is well-matched for use in CNC machining centers handling ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces where a short-length, rigid setup is preferred.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium; secondary material is stainless steel. Consult GWS Series 1040 tooling documentation for recommended speeds, feeds, and holder specifications for each material group.
This tool is installed and operated by machinists or CNC programmers on milling machines or machining centers. Before installing or changing the end mill, power down the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state per your facility lockout/tagout procedure. Seat the shank fully in the end mill holder and torque the clamping mechanism according to the holder manufacturer's specifications. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a finishing cut, as excessive runout will degrade surface finish and reduce tool life.
