The GWS 121564 is a single-end, centercutting corner radius end mill ground from submicron solid carbide and designed for demanding metal removal in both roughing and finishing operations. The cutter runs a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) diameter with a 0.06 inch corner radius, four flutes, and a variable helix and variable index geometry that breaks up harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts. Overall length is 2 inches with a 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank held to h6 tolerance for a secure fit in standard end mill holders. The FX1 coating classification and submicron carbide grade support extended tool life in ferrous and hard-material applications.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills where precision profiling, slotting, and contouring are required on steel, cast iron, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The corner radius geometry reduces edge chipping at the cutting corner compared to a sharp-corner end mill, making it a practical choice for finishing passes on hardened workpieces as well as semi-finishing in high-temp alloys. The short flute length of approximately 0.312 inches (7.92 mm) provides added rigidity in tight-tolerance pockets and shoulder milling operations.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Stainless steel is listed as a secondary workpiece material.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the holder and torque the set screw or collet to the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, particularly when working with hard materials or tight-tolerance profiles.
