The GWS 121472 is a 5-flute solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. Built on the Series 1035 platform, it features a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) mill diameter, a 0.005 inch corner radius, and a 2 inch overall length with a 0.105 inch length of cut. The submicron carbide substrate and nACo (FX1) coating give this tool the hardness and thermal resistance needed for aggressive cuts in steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Variable helix and variable index geometry reduce chatter and improve surface finish at higher feed rates.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills running precision work in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. The short length type improves rigidity, making it a practical choice for slotting, profiling, and finishing operations where deflection control matters. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, expanding its usefulness across a range of roughing and finishing applications. It is compatible with standard straight-cylindrical end mill toolholders with h6 shank tolerance clearance.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials; secondary material application includes stainless steel.
Installation is performed by machinists using compatible end mill toolholders; confirm holder bore and runout tolerance before seating the tool. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is securely clamped to the specified torque for the toolholder type before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut for the 0.105 inch length of cut on this short-series tool. Coolant through is not supported on this tool; external coolant or air blast is recommended when machining superalloys or hard materials.
