The GWS 120988 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials including steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It features a 1/8 inch cutting diameter, a 0.005 inch corner radius, and 5 flutes with a variable helix and variable index geometry. The FX1 coating classification and submicron carbide grade support both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool. With a right-hand flute direction and centercutting capability, this end mill handles full-width and plunge entry applications. It belongs to the Series 1035 short-length category and is intended for use with standard end mill toolholders.
This end mill suits precision machining environments where tight corner radii and surface finish quality are required in hard or abrasive workpiece materials. The 1/4 inch length of cut and short overall length make it well matched to shallow-depth profiling, slotting, and contouring passes on steel and stainless steel components. Stainless steel is listed as a secondary workpiece material, broadening the application range across tool-and-die, aerospace, and general precision machining work. It is a single-end design, so the tool is replaced rather than reindexed when worn.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Compatible with primary workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, K, S, H) and secondary workpiece material stainless steel (material code M).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before inserting or removing the tool. Use a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder that matches the 1/8 inch shank diameter to maintain concentricity within acceptable runout limits. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer recommended overhang length, as the short flute length of this tool is optimized for rigid setups.
