The GWS 120981 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for precision milling in demanding machining environments. With a 1/4 inch cutting diameter and 1/2 inch length of cut, this single-end tool delivers controlled material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous applications. The 5-flute configuration increases chip load capacity compared to standard 4-flute designs, supporting higher feed rates in finishing passes. A variable helix angle at 38 degrees reduces harmonic vibration and chatter during cutting. The nACRo coating provides elevated heat resistance and lubricity, extending tool life in dry or near-dry cutting conditions. Designed for use in CNC machining centers, this end mill is selected by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working to tight tolerances.
The GWS 120981 is suited for finish milling, contouring, and profiling operations on a range of workpiece materials including steels, stainless alloys, and cast irons. Its submicron carbide grade provides the edge toughness required for high-speed applications. The standard length configuration and 1/4 inch square shank allow direct installation in standard collet chucks and end mill holders without extended-reach adapters. This end mill fits operations where vibration control and surface finish quality are the primary concerns.
Designed as a standard 1/4 inch shank square end mill for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with compatible collet chucks or end mill holders accepting 1/4 inch round square-shank tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, powered-down state before changing tooling. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the collet or holder to prevent pullout during cutting. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts.
