The GWS 120546 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. With a 3/8 inch mill diameter, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and 4 flutes in a right-hand spiral configuration, this tool delivers both roughing and finishing capability in a single setup. The short-length design features a 5/8 inch length of cut and a 2 inch overall length. Variable helix and variable index geometry reduce harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts, making it well-suited for CNC milling applications where surface finish and tool life are both priorities. It is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals on vertical and horizontal milling centers.
The 120546 is intended for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The submicron carbide grade and corner radius geometry make it appropriate for applications that require blended radii on part features while maintaining close tolerances. Typical install scenarios include production milling, die and mold work, and aerospace component machining where edge integrity is critical. The straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance mounts directly into standard end mill toolholders.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch straight cylindrical shank. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium; secondary material is stainless steel.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a CNC or manual milling machine. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, as excessive runout accelerates corner radius wear and degrades surface finish.
