The GWS 120162 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling of ferrous metals, superalloys, and hard materials. Built on the Series 1030 platform, it features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter and a 0.010 inch corner radius that protects the cutting edge, reduces chipping, and extends tool life in demanding applications. With 4 flutes, a variable helix, and a variable index design, it efficiently evacuates chips while reducing harmonic vibration during cuts. The 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance is compatible with standard end mill toolholders. This is a single-end, center-cutting tool suited for slotting, profiling, and contouring operations in machine shop and production environments.
The GWS 120162 is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills where precision edge geometry is required on difficult-to-machine workpieces. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It also performs well on stainless steel as a secondary material application. The submicron carbide grade provides the toughness and hardness balance needed for both roughing and finishing passes in a single tool, reducing the need for tool changes in multi-stage operations.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. The 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank with h6 shank diameter tolerance ensures a secure, precise fit in ER collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and Weldon-style toolholders that accept 3/8 inch shanks.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the CNC program is in a safe state before changing tooling. Verify shank engagement depth meets the toolholder minimum grip length before securing. Confirm runout with a dial indicator after installation, as excessive runout reduces tool life and surface finish quality in corner radius applications.
