The GWS 120156 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built on the Series 1030 platform, it features a 5/8 inch mill diameter, a 2-1/4 inch length of cut, and a 5-inch overall length with a matching 5/8 inch square shank. The variable helix geometry at 38 degrees reduces chatter and improves surface finish, while the nACRo coating delivers enhanced heat resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting speeds. Four right-hand flutes with an upcut flute direction provide efficient chip evacuation. Machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments install this tool in standard end mill holders or collet chucks.
This end mill is suited for milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, structural steels, and high-temp alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry in addition to peripheral and slot milling. The standard-length geometry and h6 shank tolerance ensure consistent runout in precision toolholding systems. Typical applications include profiling, contouring, slotting, and shoulder milling on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous materials, structural steels, and superalloys. Fits standard 5/8 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and shrink-fit tooling with h6 tolerance acceptance.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, and confirm cutting parameters match the workpiece material and coating guidelines for the nACRo finish.
