The GUHRING 9057240120060 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading blind holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with an oxide coating, this tap handles demanding materials including stainless steel, alloy steel, heat-treated steel, and cast iron. It cuts an M12x1.25 metric fine internal thread to a 6H class of fit with a D5 thread limit, producing accurate, repeatable threads in production and maintenance environments. The 40-degree helix angle and fast flute style evacuate chips efficiently from blind holes, reducing the risk of chip packing and tap breakage. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance mechanics are the primary installers.
This tap is sized for M12x1.25 metric fine blind hole applications across general machining, automotive, aerospace, and heavy equipment repair work. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for tight-tolerance fastener bores where thread engagement depth is critical. With a 16 mm thread length and 100 mm overall length, it fits standard tap holders and CNC tooling with a 9 mm shank diameter. It is not designed for coolant-through applications. Series 5724 from GUHRING is intended for right-hand threading in right-hand flute configuration throughout.
Suitable for blind hole threading in alloy steel, alloy tool steel, aluminum alloy, case-hardened steel, cast iron, ductile iron, free-cutting steel, heat-treated steel, malleable cast iron, stainless steel, structural steel, and tool steel. Fits standard tap holders and CNC rigid tapping chucks accepting a 9 mm shank diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid tapping cycle. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled pilot hole before engagement to prevent thread galling or tap breakage. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, especially when tapping stainless steel or heat-treated steel. This tap is not rated for coolant-through operation and should not be used in through-coolant tooling systems.
