The GUHRING 9055200043000 is a cobalt screw machine (stub) length drill bit designed for high-speed, short-reach drilling in production and maintenance applications. Built to DIN 1897 standards, it measures 0.1695 inches (Wire Size 18) in diameter with a 118-degree four-facet split point that reduces walking and improves chip clearance on entry. The two-flute spiral design runs in a right-hand cut direction with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for reduced thrust force. Licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and toolroom professionals typically specify this bit when a full-length jobber drill introduces too much deflection or when spindle clearance is limited.
This drill bit is suited for short-hole applications in aluminum and similar non-ferrous materials, as well as general-purpose production drilling where stub length provides added rigidity. The cobalt construction handles elevated cutting temperatures better than standard high-speed steel, making it a practical choice for harder aluminum alloys, plastics, and light ferrous stock. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet systems without modification, and the 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio keeps the tool compact for tight-clearance setups on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held pneumatic drills.
Designed as a DIN 1897 Series 5520 stub length drill bit with a 4.30 mm straight-cylindrical shank, compatible with any standard drill chuck or collet system accepting that shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with cutting tool selection and machine setup. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout with a dial indicator if close-tolerance holes are required. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool, so apply cutting fluid externally when drilling materials that generate significant heat. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dullness is observed to avoid workpiece damage or tool breakage.
