The GUHRING 9055140035700 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in cast iron and steel. It measures 0.1405 inches (No. 28 wire gauge) in diameter with a 140-degree split point (SU type) and a web-thinned, parallel web configuration that reduces thrust and improves centering. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard chucks. At 62.00 mm overall length with a 20.00 mm flute length, this stub-length geometry delivers rigidity in close-quarters drilling applications. Manufactured from submicron-grade carbide and finished with a coating, it holds a diameter tolerance of +0.004 to +0.016 mm and meets DIN 6537K standards. Machinists, tool-and-die techs, and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This bit is suited for drilling into cast iron and steel workpieces in production and job-shop environments. The screw machine (stub) length format makes it ideal for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes where minimal overhang and maximum rigidity are required. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and right-hand spiral flute geometry support consistent chip evacuation in short-depth through-hole and blind-hole applications. Maximum drilling depth is 0.577 inches (14.65 mm). It ships individually and is designed for single-piece or low-volume precision work where tight hole tolerances are critical.
Designed as a high-performance OEM-style replacement or production drill bit for applications requiring a No. 28 wire gauge (0.1405 inch) diameter hole in cast iron or steel workpieces, per Series 5514 tooling standards.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle and workpiece are fully secured before beginning any drilling operation. Use appropriate speeds and feeds for solid carbide tooling in the workpiece material; carbide drills are brittle and should not be used with excessive side load or interrupted cuts without proper support. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping before each use and replace the bit if the edge is compromised.
