The GUHRING 9048825048260 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with an Ignator finish, this 10-32 UNF tap features a modified bottoming chamfer and a 40-degree helix angle that evacuates chips upward for clean, consistent threads in blind holes. The 3-flute, right-hand design cuts right-hand threads to a 2B/3B class of fit at an H5 thread limit. Overall length is 2.382 inches with a shank diameter of 0.194 inches. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this geometry for production tapping in difficult materials where chip control is critical.
This tap is suited for blind hole applications in alloy steel, tool steel, heat-treated steel, case-hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, ductile iron, malleable cast iron, free-cutting steel, structural steel, and aluminum alloy. The fast flute style and high helix angle make it a practical choice for CNC machining centers and production environments where through-coolant is not required. It is sold individually and is well-suited to both prototype and repeat-production threading operations.
Designed as a blind hole threading tool for 10-32 UNF applications in alloy steel, tool steel, heat-treated steel, case-hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, ductile iron, malleable cast iron, free-cutting steel, structural steel, and aluminum alloy, as specified by the manufacturer for this series.
This tap is installed by machinists or tooling technicians in a CNC machining center or drill press using a standard tap holder or floating tap chuck sized for a 0.194-inch shank. Always drill the correct tap drill size for 10-32 UNF prior to tapping and ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant compatible with the workpiece material to prevent galling, particularly in stainless and heat-treated steels. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use to avoid thread quality issues in production runs.
