The GUHRING 9044870010000 is a thread forming tap engineered for chipless internal threading in metalworking applications. Part of the Pionex Series 4487, it cuts an M1x0.25 metric thread to a 6HX class of fit using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2-3 chamfered threads. The tap is manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E-PM (powder metallurgy HSS) and finished with a TiCN coating for improved wear resistance and lubricity. At 1.5748 inches overall length with a 0.0984-inch shank diameter, this is a precision micro-tap designed for fine-thread work in tight tolerances. A right-hand thread direction and D4/D5 thread limit rating complete the specification profile.
This tap is suited for blind hole and through-hole threading operations in a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys, corresponding to material application codes P, M, K, N, and S. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it practical for threading close to the bottom of blind holes where a standard or plug chamfer cannot reach full thread form. Machinists and toolroom professionals working with M1 threads on small-diameter components will find this tap appropriate for CNC tapping centers and precision manual applications alike.
Designed for M1x0.25 metric internal thread forming applications requiring a 6HX class of fit in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and superalloy workpieces in both blind hole and through-hole configurations.
Thread forming taps require proper tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material — do not run dry, especially in stainless steel or superalloy. Ensure the spindle speed and feed rate are coordinated for form tapping, as thread forming taps must advance at exactly the thread pitch per revolution. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing or inspecting tooling. Follow shop-specific safe torque and speed parameters for M1-diameter tooling, as micro-taps are susceptible to breakage under misalignment or excessive torque.
