The GUHRING 9044073041660 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with an oxide coating, this tap handles demanding threading operations where heat resistance and wear life matter. It cuts an 8-32 UNC right-hand internal thread to a 2B/3B class of fit and features a modified bottoming chamfer for threading close to the bottom of a blind bore. The 40-degree helix angle and fast flute style drive chips up and out of the hole efficiently, reducing the risk of chip packing. Overall length is 2.13 inches with a thread length of 0.314 inches.
This tap is suited for machine tapping operations in production and job-shop environments across metalworking trades. The 8-32 UNC thread size is common in light-duty mechanical assemblies, electrical enclosures, and precision fabrication work. Confirmed compatible workpiece materials include alloy steel, alloy tool steel, aluminum alloy, case-hardened steel, cast iron, ductile iron, free-cutting steel, heat-treated steel, malleable cast iron, stainless steel, structural steel, and tool steel. It belongs to the GUHRING Series 4407 tap line and carries UNSPSC code 23241600.
Designed for blind hole threading in primary workpiece material categories P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and N (aluminum and non-ferrous), as specified by the manufacturer. Confirmed compatible material families include alloy steel, alloy tool steel, aluminum alloy, case-hardened steel, cast iron, ductile iron, free-cutting steel, heat-treated steel, malleable cast iron, stainless steel, structural steel, and tool steel.
This tap is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople operating tapping heads, CNC machining centers, or manual drill presses with appropriate speed control. Before starting, verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and tap diameter. Use adequate cutting fluid or coolant to prevent galling, especially in stainless steel and heat-treated steel. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged cutting edge in a blind hole can result in a broken tap that is difficult to remove.
