The GUHRING 9041200040000 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading M4 x 0.70 metric coarse blind holes in high-tensile steel and similar demanding materials. Built from powdered metal with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, this tap delivers wear resistance and extended tool life in production environments. The 40-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation out of the blind hole, reducing the risk of chip packing and tap breakage. With a modified bottoming chamfer, it threads closer to the bottom of the hole than a standard plug tap. Class of fit is 6H, and thread limits are D3 and D4. This tool is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trades working with metric-threaded fastener applications.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading operations in high-tensile steel. The Series 4120 design with a fast flute style makes it appropriate for CNC tapping cycles and hand tapping where precise metric thread fit is required. The right-hand flute and right-hand thread orientation cover standard machine and hand tapping setups. Coolant-through capability is not included in this model.
Designed as an OEM-style spiral flute tap for blind hole threading applications in high-tensile steel, suited to standard M4 x 0.70 metric coarse threaded fastener requirements.
Tap installation should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with proper speeds, feeds, and cutting fluid selection for the workpiece material. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned before engagement to avoid tap breakage. For blind hole applications, verify hole depth is sufficient for the full thread depth plus chip clearance before tapping. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound compatible with high-tensile steel to protect the TiN coating and extend tool life.
