The GUHRING 9039980079380 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in demanding materials, including stainless steel. Built from powdered metal and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap offers elevated hardness and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel options. It features a modified bottoming chamfer for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, a 40-degree helix angle for efficient chip evacuation, and a 3B class of fit for standard tolerance threaded connections. Overall length is 2.72 inches. This tool is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance professionals working in precision threading applications.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading operations in materials such as stainless steel where chip control is critical. The fast flute style and 40-degree helix angle work together to pull chips up and out of the hole during the tapping cycle, reducing the risk of chip packing and tap breakage. It is applicable in job shop, production machining, and maintenance environments where consistent thread quality in a 5/16-18 UNC 3B fit is required.
Designed for blind hole threading in 5/16-18 UNC applications, with a material application rating for stainless steel. Part of the Guhring Series 3998.
Installation is performed by machinists using a tapping head, CNC machine, or hand tap wrench. Always secure the workpiece and ensure proper alignment before starting the tapping cycle to prevent tap breakage. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material. This tap does not support coolant-through delivery, so external lubrication is required.
