The GUHRING 9039840048260 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in metalworking applications. It cuts a 10-24 UNC right-hand thread using a modified bottoming chamfer, making it suited for threading holes close to the bottom without leaving significant unthreaded depth. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to improve wear resistance and reduce friction during cutting. With a 40-degree helix angle and fast flute style, it efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole, which is the defining advantage of spiral flute taps in blind hole work. This tool is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working in production or repair environments.
This tap is intended for threading blind holes in alloyed and unalloyed steel. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a hole than a standard plug tap while still providing some lead-in for alignment. The H11 thread limit designates an oversize tolerance class, commonly selected when a TiN-coated tap is used to account for the dimensional buildup of the coating and ensure proper thread fit after plating or finishing operations on the workpiece. The Series 3984 designation identifies this as part of a specific GUHRING product family of spiral flute taps.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloyed and unalloyed steel workpieces where a 10-24 UNC thread form is required. Coolant-through is not supported by this tap.
This tap is used in a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or hand tapping setup by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician. Always ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole before applying torque to avoid tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for steel to reduce heat and extend tool life. Do not reverse the tap too aggressively, as cobalt taps can be brittle under shock loading.
