The GUHRING 9039670035050 is a spiral point plug tap designed for through-hole threading in a wide range of metals. It cuts a 6-32 UNC thread profile with a right-hand helix, using three flutes to push chips forward ahead of the cutting edge — the defining advantage of spiral point geometry in through-hole applications. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel for added heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS. A MolyGlide finish reduces friction during cutting, extending tool life and improving thread finish quality. At 2.0 inches overall length, it fits standard tap holders and is suited for manual or machine tapping operations performed by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and tool-and-die tradespeople.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading applications in production and maintenance environments. It is rated for use in aluminum, gray cast iron, malleable iron, spheroidal iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The 6-32 UNC thread size is common in light-duty fastening, instrument panels, electronics enclosures, and sheet metal assemblies. The Series 3967 designation identifies it within the GUHRING standard tap program. It is suited for both manual tapping and CNC or drill press machine tapping setups where through-hole chip evacuation is required.
Designed for through-hole tapping of 6-32 UNC threads in aluminum, gray cast iron, malleable iron, spheroidal iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. Compatible with standard tap holders sized for a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
Tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance mechanic using a calibrated tap handle or machine tapping setup. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is started square to the hole to prevent thread misalignment or tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material — sulfurized oil for steel and ferrous metals, water-soluble coolant or kerosene for aluminum. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged tap can seize in the hole or produce out-of-tolerance threads.
