The GUHRING 9039480020000 is a spiral flute tap designed for metric blind hole threading in alloyed and unalloyed steel. It cuts an M2 x 0.40 thread to a 6H class of fit using a modified bottoming chamfer, which allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard taper or plug chamfer. The tap is made from cobalt high-speed steel for improved heat and wear resistance, and it carries a TICN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating to further extend tool life in abrasive materials. With a 40-degree helix angle and fast flute style, this tap efficiently evacuates chips upward during the cut. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is suited for blind hole applications in alloyed and unalloyed steel workpieces where a metric M2 x 0.40 thread is required. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it appropriate for jobs where full thread depth near the bottom of a blind hole is critical. It is used in precision machining environments including job shops, toolrooms, and production machining operations. The Series 3948 designation identifies it within the GUHRING tap line. Right-hand thread and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional machine tapping setups.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloyed and unalloyed steel. Suitable for use with standard CNC machining centers, tapping machines, and manual tapping setups configured for right-hand M2 x 0.40 metric threads.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or toolroom professionals using a tapping head, CNC rigid tapping cycle, or manual tap wrench. Ensure the spindle speed and feed rate are matched to the tap diameter and workpiece material before engaging the cut. The workpiece should be securely fixtured and the tap properly aligned to the pre-drilled pilot hole to avoid tap breakage at this small diameter. No coolant-through feature is present on this tap, so external cutting fluid application is recommended when tapping steel.
