The GUHRING 9039460025150 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in through-hole applications. Built from HSS-E cobalt tool steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, it produces 3-48 UNC threads at a Class 2B fit tolerance. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap rather than packing them behind, making it well suited for through-hole work in steel. With a thread limit of H2/H3 and a 3-flute configuration, this tap delivers controlled thread form and consistent chip evacuation in production and maintenance environments. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading in steel workpieces at the 3-48 UNC thread specification. The 3-48 designation covers fine-threaded fastener holes common in instrument panels, electronics enclosures, precision sheet metal assemblies, and light mechanical fixtures. At 1.811 inches overall length with a 0.5 inch thread length and a 0.141 inch shank diameter, the tool fits standard tap wrenches and CNC tapping chucks sized for small-diameter taps. It is not rated for coolant-through delivery or interrupted thread applications.
Designed for through-hole threading of 3-48 UNC right-hand threads in steel. Compatible with standard tap wrenches, T-handle tap holders, and CNC tapping chucks accepting a 0.141 inch shank diameter. Not for use in blind holes or with coolant-through tooling systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the hole is drilled to the correct tap-drill diameter for a 3-48 UNC thread before tapping. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for steel to reduce heat buildup and extend tap life. Avoid reversing or forcing the tap in undersized or misaligned holes, as small-diameter taps are susceptible to breakage under side load.
