The GUHRING 9039440031750 is a thread forming tap designed for cutting 5-44 UNF internal threads in metalworking applications. This right-hand tap operates without flutes by displacing material rather than cutting chips, making it well suited for blind hole and through-hole threading operations. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-alloyed HSS) and coated with TiCN, it delivers extended tool life in demanding materials. It carries a 2BX class of fit with H4 and H5 thread limits, providing a controlled tolerance range for precision fastener applications. Overall length is 1.941 inches, with a tapping depth of 0.709 inches and a thread length of 0.433 inches. Four oil grooves support lubrication during the forming process.
This tap is used in production and maintenance machining environments where clean, strong formed threads are required without chip evacuation concerns. Its modified bottoming chamfer, with 2 to 3 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, it covers a broad range of workpiece materials common in aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing settings. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this tap in both manual and CNC tapping applications.
Designed for blind hole and through-hole thread forming in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Material application codes P, M, K, and N confirm suitability across a wide range of workpiece materials.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole that differs from standard cut-tap drill sizes — consult the appropriate tap drill chart for 5-44 UNF forming taps before drilling. A cutting or forming lubricant appropriate for the workpiece material should be applied throughout the operation. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is held perpendicular to the hole to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. Tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist following applicable shop safety procedures.
