The GUHRING 9039430041660 is a thread forming tap designed for producing internal threads without cutting chips. Operating on a cold-forming principle, it displaces material rather than removing it, resulting in stronger thread forms with improved surface finish. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-enriched HSS) and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap handles demanding materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. It is sized for 8-32 UNC threads with a 2BX class of fit and a modified bottoming chamfer for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this tap for precision threaded assemblies where thread integrity is critical.
This tap is suited for both blind hole and through-hole threading applications in production and maintenance environments. The modified bottoming chamfer, featuring 2 to 3 chamfered threads, allows threading to near full depth in blind holes. With a tapping depth of 0.827 inches and a thread length of 0.512 inches, it performs in tight-tolerance work across light manufacturing, metalworking, and precision fabrication. Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a standard cutting tap drill — consult the appropriate forming tap drill chart for the correct hole diameter before use. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material to the oil grooves before and during tapping. Secure the workpiece firmly and use a tapping head or CNC rigid tapping cycle to maintain axial alignment and avoid tap breakage. Do not use this tap in materials that do not have sufficient ductility to support cold forming.
