The GUHRING 9039420060000 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting, reducing chip generation in the work zone. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-grade HSS) and coated with TiCN for added surface hardness and lubricity, this tap handles M6x1.00 Metric Coarse threads to a 6HX class of fit. The modified bottoming chamfer — 2 to 3 thread lead — allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 2.5 inches with a thread length of 0.6299 inches and a tapping depth of 1.1811 inches. Machinists and toolroom operators use this tap in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses where tight-tolerance metric threads are required.
This tap is suited for blind-hole and through-hole threading applications across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals — corresponding to material application codes P, M, K, and N. The Series 3942 design features five oil grooves to distribute forming lubricant evenly around the tap body during the cold-forming process. Right-hand thread direction is standard. Typical applications include precision machine components, fastener bosses, and structural hardware where M6 metric threads are specified to DIN or ISO standards.
Designed for M6x1.00 Metric Coarse thread forming in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metal workpieces. Compatible with standard M6 tap holders and collet chucks accepting a 0.2550 inch (6.48 mm) shank diameter with a 0.1929 inch (4.90 mm) square drive.
Thread forming taps require a forming-specific pilot hole diameter — consult the applicable ISO or DIN forming tap drill chart for M6x1.00 to determine the correct pre-drill size, as it differs from a cutting tap pilot hole. Use a suitable forming or tapping fluid rated for the workpiece material; dry forming will damage the tap and the workpiece thread. Secure the tap in a floating or tension-compression tap holder to absorb axial variation during the forming cycle. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the workpiece is firmly fixtured before engaging the tap.
