The GUHRING 9039410190500 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 3/4-16 UNF internal threads in metalworking applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, resulting in stronger, work-hardened thread walls with no chips to evacuate. This tap is manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-alloyed HSS) and carries a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating for improved wear resistance and lubricity. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2-3 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 4.252 inches with a shank diameter of 0.590 inches. It is sized for a 2BX class of fit and carries thread limits H10 and H11. Machinists and tool-room technicians install this tap in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping heads.
This tap is suited for threading blind holes and through-holes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, corresponding to material application codes P, M, K, and N. The modified bottoming style makes it well-suited for blind-hole threading operations where thread engagement is needed near the bottom of the hole. The 3xD flute-by-diameter ratio and 7 oil grooves support lubrication delivery during the forming process, making it appropriate for both production machining and toolroom work across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Designed for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metal workpieces. Compatible with blind hole and through-hole threading applications requiring a 3/4-16 UNF thread form and a 2BX class of fit. Part of the GUHRING Series 3941.
This tap should be installed by qualified machinists familiar with thread forming operations. Always ensure the spindle and workpiece are securely clamped and that the machine is at a complete stop before loading or removing the tap. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material to prevent galling, particularly in stainless steel. Verify pilot hole diameter against the manufacturer-recommended forming tap drill chart for 3/4-16 UNF before threading, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps of the same thread size.
