The GUHRING 9039410142880 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in a range of metals without cutting. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-grade HSS) and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tap produces strong, work-hardened threads with no chip formation. It is configured in the Series 3941 with a Modified Bottoming chamfer of 2-3 threads, making it suitable for both blind-hole and through-hole threading applications. Overall length is 3.591 inches with a thread length of 0.866 inches and a shank diameter of 0.429 inches. Licensed machinists, toolroom mechanics, and maintenance technicians install this tap in manual or CNC tapping operations.
This tap is suited for threading 9/16-18 UNF right-hand threads to a 2BX class of fit with a thread limit of H8/H9. It is rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, corresponding to material application codes P, M, K, and N. The Modified Bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of blind holes than a standard bottoming tap, making it a practical choice in tight-clearance machining scenarios. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting oil application is standard practice.
Designed for 9/16-18 UNF blind-hole and through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Compatible applications follow material codes P, M, K, and N as specified by the manufacturer for Series 3941 thread forming taps.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with thread forming operations. Always apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil before and during use, as no coolant-through feature is present. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the pre-drilled hole to prevent tap breakage or thread distortion. Consult the manufacturer recommended pre-drill diameter chart for thread forming taps, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps of the same thread size.
