The GUHRING 9039400095250 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 3/8-16 UNC internal threads without cutting chips. Manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-alloyed HSS) and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), this tap delivers extended tool life in demanding threading applications. It carries a 2BX class of fit with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2-3 threads, making it suitable for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. The overall length is 2.941 inches, thread length is 0.787 inches, and maximum tapping depth reaches 1.457 inches. A licensed machinist, tool and die maker, or maintenance technician would typically deploy this tap in production or repair threading operations.
This tap is rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, covering material application codes P, M, K, and N. It supports both blind hole and through-hole threading operations. The flute-by-diameter ratio is 3xD, and the tap features 5 oil grooves to facilitate lubrication during the forming process. It is part of the GUHRING Series 3940 and is suited for CNC tapping centers, drill presses, and manual tapping where a right-hand, form-style thread is required. Thread direction is right hand.
Designed for threading 3/8-16 UNC right-hand threads in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Suitable for use with standard 3/8-16 tapping chucks and holders that accommodate a 0.381-inch shank diameter and a 0.286-inch square drive size.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — consult a standard forming tap drill chart for the correct pre-drill diameter before use, as it differs from a standard cut tap drill size. Always apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil to the workpiece before and during tapping. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap is driven on-axis to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. Power down and de-energize any CNC or powered tapping equipment before changing or inspecting tooling.
