The GUHRING 9039370127000 is a 1/2-13 UNC cobalt machine tap designed for right-hand threading in both blind-hole and through-hole applications. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, which allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard taper tap while still providing better lead-in than a true bottoming tap. The four-flute straight-flute geometry provides rigidity and chip control in harder or abrasive materials. At 3-3/8 inches overall length and finished with a FIREX coating, this tap is built for production and maintenance machining environments where tool life and thread quality matter.
This tap is suited for threading 1/2-13 UNC threads in abrasive materials and cast iron, where cobalt construction provides the heat resistance and edge retention that high-speed steel alone cannot deliver. The FIREX coating adds additional surface hardness and reduces friction, making it appropriate for dry or minimal-lubrication machining setups. It fits standard machine tap holders and is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on manual mills, CNC machining centers, and drill presses equipped with tapping attachments.
Designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC threads in abrasive materials and cast iron. Compatible with standard machine tap holders accepting a 0.367-inch shank diameter with a 0.275-inch square drive.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists using a tapping head, CNC rigid tapping cycle, or manual tapping attachment. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole before engagement. Cutting fluid or coolant appropriate for the workpiece material should be applied unless the setup is specifically configured for dry tapping. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, as cobalt taps used in abrasive materials are subject to accelerated edge wear.
