The GUHRING 9039230127000 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in alloyed and unalloyed steel. It cuts a 1/2-20 UNF internal thread with a modified bottoming chamfer, making it suitable for applications where the thread must extend close to the bottom of a blind hole. The 40-degree right-hand helix flute geometry evacuates chips upward out of the hole, reducing chip packing in confined bores. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiN coating, the tap provides added wear resistance and lubricity in ferrous materials. Overall length is 3.381 inches with a 0.512-inch thread length.
This tap is intended for use in machining, maintenance, and repair operations where 1/2-20 UNF blind hole threads are required in alloyed or unalloyed steel workpieces. The modified bottoming chamfer leaves only a small amount of unthreaded material at the bottom of the hole, making it a common choice in production and job-shop environments when full thread depth is needed with minimal clearance. It belongs to GUHRING Series 3922 and is sold individually.
Designed for blind hole threading of 1/2-20 UNF threads in alloyed steel and unalloyed steel workpieces. Not rated for coolant-through use.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tapping head, CNC machine, or hand tap wrench. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned before engagement to avoid tap breakage or thread misalignment. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for steel to reduce heat and extend tool life. Verify the drilled hole depth provides sufficient clearance below the required thread depth before tapping.
