The GUHRING 9039220127000 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in alloyed and unalloyed steel. It cuts a 1/2-13 UNC right-hand internal thread and is built from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to extend tool life and reduce friction. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug tap. Three right-hand flutes with a 40-degree helix angle and fast flute style evacuate chips upward, keeping the cutting zone clear. Overall length is 3.381 inches with a thread length of 0.787 inches. Class of fit is 2B, thread limits H5/H6. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is sized for 1/2-13 UNC threading operations in blind hole applications. The 40-degree spiral flute geometry makes it well suited for through-hole and stopped-hole work in alloyed steel and unalloyed steel workpieces where chip evacuation is critical. The modified bottoming chamfer gives threading access close to hole bottoms without sacrificing tap strength. With a shank diameter of 0.367 inches and a square drive size of 0.275 inches, the tap fits standard tapping chucks and holders sized for this shank. Coolant-through capability is not included in this design.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloyed steel and unalloyed steel. Fits standard tapping chucks and holders that accept a 0.367-inch shank diameter with a 0.275-inch square drive.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or hand-tapping setup with a proper tapping chuck. Ensure the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for a 1/2-13 UNC thread before tapping. Use a compatible cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for the workpiece material to protect the TiN coating and maintain thread quality. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping regularly, as cobalt tooling can fracture if forced into an undersized or mis-aligned hole.
