The GUHRING 9039150080000 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in steel and similar materials. It cuts an M8x1.25 metric internal thread to a 6H class of fit, making it suitable for precision fastener applications where thread tolerance matters. The tap is manufactured from HSS-E cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, which improves wear resistance and tool life in ferrous materials. With 3 flutes and a plug chamfer, it starts threads smoothly and drives chips forward through the hole during cutting. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians use this tap in both manual and machine tapping operations.
This tap is suited for through-hole tapping applications in production and maintenance environments. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the cutting zone rather than packing them back into the flutes, making it well-suited for continuous-feed machine tapping. The plug chamfer provides a moderate lead-in, typically 3 to 5 threads, which works across most standard through-hole setups. It is appropriate for use in steel and comparable ferrous workpiece materials. The D4/D5 thread limit designation indicates the oversize tolerance class ground into the tap, which helps account for thread spring-back in common steel alloys.
Designed for through-hole threading applications in steel workpieces. Compatible with standard M8x1.25 metric tap holders, tapping chucks, and CNC rigid tapping setups that accept the 0.318-inch shank diameter of the Series 3915 design.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or maintenance professional familiar with machine tapping or hand tapping procedures. Ensure the tapping spindle or tap wrench is properly aligned with the drilled pilot hole before beginning the cut to avoid tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material. Never reverse a spiral point tap under load without first fully advancing it through the hole, as backing out under torque can fracture the tool.
