The GUHRING 9017020030000 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, this Series 1702 bit measures 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 46.00 mm (1.8110 inches) and a flute length of 16.00 mm (0.6299 inches). The 140-degree split-point (SF) geometry and web-thinned, tapered web construction reduce thrust and improve centering on entry. The TiN coating adds surface hardness and lubricity, extending tool life in high-production screw machine and CNC drilling operations. Installed by machinists and tool-room technicians, this bit is suited for tight-tolerance applications where carbide rigidity outperforms HSS.
This drill bit is rated as a high-performance tool with a primary workpiece material designation of stainless steel, making it appropriate for aerospace, medical, and industrial fabrication environments where stainless and other work-hardening alloys are common. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and screw machine length keep deflection minimal in short-hole applications. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks, collets, and quick-change toolholders without adapters. Maximum drilling depth is 0.4530 inches (11.50 mm).
Designed as an OEM-specification screw machine length carbide drill bit per DIN 6539, suitable for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines equipped with standard 3.00 mm straight-shank toolholding.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-room personnel familiar with carbide tooling requirements. Secure the shank fully in a collet or drill chuck to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth before operation. Carbide tooling is brittle - avoid side-loading, interrupted cuts at high feed rates, or re-chucking a visibly chipped flute. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and tool diameter before starting the cut.
