The GUHRING 9012420061000 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in cast iron and steel. Built to DIN 6539 standards, this Series 1242 bit measures 0.2402 inches (6.10 mm) in diameter with a 140-degree split point (SU point type) that reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. The two-flute spiral design features web thinning and a parallel web configuration for efficient chip evacuation. At 70.00 mm overall length with a 31.00 mm flute length, it fits standard screw machine length tooling setups. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical contractors frequently encounter this class of bit when drilling through ferrous structural components during installation work.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in cast iron and steel workpieces. The screw machine length format provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it well-matched for drill press and CNC machining center applications where shorter overhang reduces deflection. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks and collet systems without modification. A maximum drilling depth of 0.8600 inches (21.85 mm) at a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it practical for through-hole and blind-hole work in moderate-thickness stock. Trade professionals working with structural steel, cast housings, or ferrous mounting hardware will find this geometry appropriate for clean, accurate holes.
Designed as a DIN 6539 Series 1242 screw machine length drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems used in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand drilling equipment rated for solid carbide tooling.
Installation and use of solid carbide drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with proper speeds and feeds for carbide tooling in ferrous materials. Ensure the spindle and chuck are free of runout before seating the shank, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading. Power down and lock out the machine before inserting or removing the bit. Do not use this bit in hand-held drills where vibration and misalignment can cause chipping or breakage.
