The GUHRING 9012420060000 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for precision hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from submicron solid carbide and finished with a TiN coating, it delivers extended tool life under high-cycle production conditions. The 140-degree split point (SU point type) with web thinning reduces entry thrust and walking at the start of the cut. With an overall length of 66.00 mm (approximately 2.60 inches) and a flute length of 28.00 mm (approximately 1.10 inches), this stub-length geometry maximizes rigidity and minimizes runout. It is sized at 6.00 mm (0.2362 inches) in diameter and belongs to the Series 1242 product line. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators in production environments are the primary users.
This drill bit is suited for drilling brass, cast iron, and steel in both manual and CNC machine tool setups. The screw machine (stub) length makes it the right choice for applications where rigidity is critical and tool overhang must be minimized, such as turret lathes, machining centers, and drill presses. The straight-cylindrical shank seats cleanly in standard drill chucks and collet holders. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry promote consistent chip evacuation in these workpiece materials. No coolant-through capability is present, so external or flood coolant should be planned accordingly in high-feed applications.
Designed as an OEM-specification screw machine length drill bit suitable for use in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and drill presses equipped with standard straight-shank toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are brass, cast iron, and steel.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the spindle and chuck or collet are clean and free of runout before seating the shank. Carbide is brittle and should not be used in setups with excessive vibration or interrupted cuts without confirming the toolholder rigidity is adequate. No coolant-through capability is built in, so direct external coolant or mist coolant at the cutting zone when drilling steel or cast iron at production feeds.
