The GUHRING 9010110050000 is a cobalt spiral flute STI tap designed for cutting Screw Thread Insert (STI) threads in metric applications. It produces oversized internal threads that accept helical wire inserts, restoring stripped or worn threads to their original specification. The tap features a 40-degree helix angle that promotes effective chip evacuation in blind and through holes, and a TiN (Titanium Nitride) coating that extends tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The modified bottoming chamfer allows the tap to cut closer to the bottom of blind holes than a standard plug chamfer. Overall length is 80 millimeters, and the thread class of fit is 6H (mod), matching the oversize requirement for STI thread systems. Installed by machinists and maintenance technicians in production and repair environments.
This tap is used in metalworking operations where M5x0.80 metric STI threads are required, particularly in thread repair and insert installation work. The right-hand flute direction and 40-degree helix make it well suited for materials that produce stringy or continuous chips, such as aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel. It is appropriate for both CNC tapping centers and hand tapping applications where thread insert preparation is needed in blind-hole or through-hole configurations.
Designed for use in STI thread insert applications requiring an M5x0.80 oversize tapped hole with a 6H (mod) class of fit, compatible with standard helical wire insert systems in that thread size and pitch.
This tap should be installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with STI thread repair procedures. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure proper tap alignment before beginning the cut to avoid tap breakage or thread misalignment. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and back the tap out periodically to clear chips, especially in blind holes. Never exceed the tool's rated torque range, and always de-energize or lock out powered equipment before performing thread repair on machinery.
