The GUHRING 9010100100000 is a spiral point STI tap designed for through-hole threading in metric coarse applications. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap delivers extended tool life in demanding materials including stainless steel and alloy steel. The plug chamfer provides a gradual cutting entry suited to through-hole work. It runs in the Series 1010 configuration with a D4 thread limit and a 6H class of fit, making it a reliable choice for precision tapping in production and maintenance environments. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this tap where consistent thread quality and tool longevity are required.
This tap is configured for STI (Screw Thread Insert) metric coarse threading, producing oversized threads intended to accept helical wire inserts such as Heli-Coil or equivalent. It is suited to repair work and original equipment manufacturing where thread reinforcement in softer or damaged base materials is required. Typical applications include through-hole tapping in stainless steel and steel workpieces across aerospace, industrial maintenance, and general machining environments. The 3-flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in through-hole conditions.
Designed for through-hole STI metric coarse tapping in stainless steel and steel workpieces; accepts standard tap holders sized for a 12.00 mm shank diameter.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following standard tapping procedures. Secure the workpiece fully before beginning the tapping cycle and verify spindle alignment to prevent tap breakage. Use a cutting fluid appropriate for the base material, particularly when tapping stainless steel, to manage heat and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace at the first sign of thread quality degradation.
