The GUHRING 9008300180070 is a straight-flute machine tap designed for cutting M18x1.50 metric fine internal threads in steel workpieces. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap handles both blind-hole and through-hole threading operations where accuracy and thread quality are critical. It carries a 6H class of fit with a D4/D5 thread limit, producing threads within tight tolerance for fastener engagement in precision assemblies. The modified bottoming chamfer allows thread cutting closer to the bottom of blind holes than a standard plug tap, making it the right choice when thread depth is constrained. Overall length is 110 millimeters, and it runs as a right-hand tap.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance machining environments where metric fine threads are required. Metric fine pitches like 1.50 mm are common in automotive, industrial equipment, and precision mechanical assemblies where vibration resistance or fine adjustment is needed. It is installed in CNC machining centers, manual mills, or dedicated tapping machines using a standard straight-shank holder. The 14 mm shank diameter and 11 mm square drive size are compatible with common tap holders in this size range. Coolant-through capability is not present, so flood or mist external coolant is the standard approach when tapping steel.
Designed for blind-hole and through-hole threading in steel workpieces requiring M18x1.50 metric fine threads. Suitable for use in CNC tapping centers, knee mills, and dedicated tapping machines equipped with straight-shank tap holders accepting a 14 mm shank.
This tap is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician using a properly sized straight-shank tap holder or floating tap adapter. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the workpiece is securely fixtured before engaging the tap. Use cutting fluid or external flood coolant rated for ferrous materials to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Do not reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine is programmed for a synchronized tapping cycle to avoid thread damage or breakage.
