The GUHRING 9008230080000 is a cobalt spiral flute tap designed for threading blind holes to an M8 x 1.25 metric standard. Built to a 6H class of fit with a D4/D5 thread limit, it produces accurate internal threads suited to close-tolerance applications. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading deeper into blind holes than a standard plug tap. With a 40-degree right-hand helix, chip evacuation moves upward out of the hole during cutting. At 3.5433 inches overall length and a 0.2362-inch shank diameter, this tap is sized for standard toolholders used in machining centers and CNC tapping operations. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in case hardening steel, heat treatable steel, and tool steel. The cobalt construction handles the elevated hardness and heat generated when cutting these materials. The fast flute style and 40-degree helix promote efficient chip removal in deeper blind hole passes, reducing the risk of chip packing and tap breakage. It is well suited to production machining environments where M8 threads are required in ferrous alloy workpieces. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for use with standard cutting fluids compatible with cobalt high-speed steel tooling.
Designed for blind hole threading in case hardening steel, heat treatable steel, and tool steel workpieces requiring M8 x 1.25 metric internal threads to a 6H class of fit. Part of GUHRING Series 823.
This tap is installed by qualified machinists in manual or CNC tapping operations. Before use, ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is powered down when loading the tap into the holder. Use a cutting fluid rated for cobalt high-speed steel tooling and the workpiece material. Do not exceed the tap's rated thread limit or apply it to materials outside the specified application range, as doing so risks tap breakage in the blind hole.
