The GUHRING 9005520091300 is a screw machine length (stub) drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in aluminum and other non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this Series 552 bit features a parabolic flute geometry and a web-thinned, parallel web configuration that promotes efficient chip evacuation at shallow drilling depths. The 130-degree split point angle improves centering accuracy and reduces the thrust force needed at entry. At 3-5/16 inches overall length with a 1-9/16 inch flute length and a maximum drilling depth of 1.0360 inches, it fits tight-clearance applications where a jobber-length bit would be impractical. Right-hand cut with a straight-cylindrical shank for standard chuck compatibility.
This bit is suited for use in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, drill presses, and screw machine operations where stub rigidity reduces deflection and chatter. The parabolic flute design is particularly effective in aluminum and soft metals, where chip packing is a common failure mode. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and web-thinned tip make this bit well matched to production environments requiring consistent hole quality in shallow-depth through-holes. It conforms to DIN 1897 standards, making it appropriate for shops specifying metric-standard tooling alongside inch-dimension workpieces.
Designed as an OEM-style stub-length drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 23/64 inch shank. Primary workpiece material is aluminum per manufacturer specification. Fits any machine tool or hand-held drill rated for the corresponding shank diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Confirm chuck runout is within acceptable tolerance before beginning a production run, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and degrades hole geometry. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or mist coolant when drilling aluminum to extend tool life, even though this bit does not feature internal coolant-through capability.
