The GROBET 31.540 is a Swiss-pattern needle file designed for precision material removal in close-tolerance work. The round file profile measures 5.5 inches overall length with a 2.5-inch length of cut, making it well suited for enlarging holes, cleaning grooves, and finishing curved internal surfaces. At 0.22 inches in width and 0.05 inches in thickness, this file delivers fine control in tight access areas. Cut 0 is the coarsest Swiss-pattern grade, removing material quickly while still maintaining the accuracy expected from Swiss-pattern tooling. The tang end accepts a standard file handle sold separately.
This file is used by machinists, tool-and-die workers, jewelers, and metal fabricators who require consistent geometry and controlled stock removal. It fits naturally into precision fitting, deburring, and light shaping tasks on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar materials. The round cross-section allows access to round holes and curved channels where flat or half-round profiles cannot reach effectively.
Designed as a standard Swiss-pattern needle file suitable for use with any compatible aftermarket or OEM file handle accepting a tang-style fit.
Always fit a file handle onto the tang before use to prevent hand injury from the exposed tang tip. Secure the workpiece in a vise or fixture before filing to maintain control and accuracy. Files are cutting tools only and should never be used as pry bars or struck with a hammer. Inspect the file for cracks or damage before each use and replace if the teeth are worn smooth or the body shows visible defects.
