The GREENFIELD 402241 is a round adjustable threading die designed to cut 5/16-18 UNC external threads on fasteners, bolts, and round stock. Part of the Series 382 lineup, it is manufactured from carbon steel with a bright finish for corrosion resistance during storage and use. The die measures 1.5 inches in outside diameter and 0.5 inches in thickness, and it fits standard round die stocks sized for 1.5-inch OD dies. At 0.183 pounds, it is lightweight and easy to handle. The right-hand thread direction and UNC thread form make it a standard general-purpose tool for machinists, pipefitters, maintenance technicians, and other trades requiring field or shop threading capability.
This die is suited for general-purpose threading applications in both shop and field environments. It is used when cutting or restoring 5/16-18 UNC external threads on bolts, rods, and threaded fasteners in mechanical assemblies. The adjustable design allows minor diameter adjustment to control thread fit and compensate for tool wear. It is appropriate for use in manufacturing, maintenance, repair, and fabrication work across industrial, commercial, and light mechanical applications.
Designed for use in standard round die stocks accepting 1.5-inch OD dies. Cuts 5/16-18 UNC thread form on compatible workpiece materials for general-purpose threading applications.
This die is installed by a machinist or qualified technician into a matching round die stock before use. Secure the die firmly in the die stock using the set screws before threading to prevent rotation or slippage. Apply cutting oil to the workpiece before and during threading to reduce heat buildup and extend die life. Inspect the die for chipping or wear before each use and replace if thread cutting performance degrades.
