The GIBRALTAR Z1212 is a flat vent pull out dowel pin used to locate, align, and retain components in precision assemblies. Machined from Grade C1215 case-hardened steel, this pin measures 3/8 inch in diameter and 2 inches in overall length. The case hardening process produces a hard outer surface while maintaining a tough core, making the pin resistant to wear and surface deformation under cyclic loading. End configuration is one beveled end and one threaded end, which supports both guided insertion and secure mechanical fastening within the mating bore. Diameter tolerance is held to 0.0001 to 0.0003 inch, suitable for close-fit locating applications in tooling, fixtures, and mechanical assemblies.
This dowel pin is appropriate for use in industrial, manufacturing, and maintenance applications where accurate part alignment or component retention is required. The flat vent feature allows trapped air and lubricant to escape during press or slip fit installation, reducing hydraulic lock in blind holes. Both light-duty fixture work and higher-cycle production tooling are typical use environments. The threaded end allows the pin to be extracted without a press or drift, making it well suited for assemblies that require periodic disassembly or pin replacement.
Designed as a standard replacement or stock dowel pin for fixtures, jigs, dies, and mechanical assemblies requiring a 3/8 inch flat vent pull out style pin with one beveled and one threaded end.
Installation and removal should be performed by a machinist or maintenance technician familiar with precision locating hardware. De-energize and lock out any associated equipment before servicing assemblies containing this pin. Use the threaded end with an appropriate extraction tool or slide hammer adapter to remove the pin from blind holes without damaging the bore. Avoid hammering directly on the threaded end, as this can distort the thread and complicate future removal.
