The GIBRALTAR SWPN-6A-G is a threaded spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and light-duty holding applications in mechanical assemblies. The plunger features a 3/8-16 thread with a 1-1/8 inch thread length and a phenolic nose that contacts the workpiece without marring softer surfaces. Initial end force is 2.8 pounds and final end force is 7.2 pounds, making it well suited for applications that require consistent, repeatable spring tension. The steel body provides durability in industrial and commercial settings. This plunger is installed by machinists, millwrights, and mechanical assemblers working on fixtures, jigs, and equipment panels.
This spring plunger fits into tapped holes sized for 3/8-16 threads. It is used in machine tool fixtures, assembly jigs, equipment housings, and tooling plates where a spring-loaded detent or positioning stop is needed. The standard-length plunger body at 1-1/8 inches accommodates typical panel and plate thicknesses encountered in light manufacturing and mechanical assembly environments. The phenolic nose makes it appropriate for applications where contact with softer or finished surfaces is a concern.
Designed as a standard-thread spring plunger for use in any mechanical assembly or fixture application requiring a 3/8-16 tapped hole and a spring-loaded positioning or detent function.
Installation is performed by machinists or mechanical assemblers using a hex wrench or spanner tool appropriate for the plunger body style. The receiving hole must be tapped to 3/8-16 specification and free of chips or debris before installation. Thread the plunger in by hand to start, then torque to the assembly requirement without exceeding the body material limits. Confirm plunger travel and spring action are unobstructed after installation before returning the assembly to service.
