The GIBRALTAR SWPN-2AP-G is a threaded spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and light-duty holding applications in mechanical assemblies. The plunger features an 8-32 thread size with a 5/8-inch thread length and a steel body. A phenolic nose contacts the mating surface, protecting both the plunger and the workpiece from galling or marking. The locking element locks the plunger in place after installation, preventing rotation or back-out under vibration. Initial end force is 0.70 pounds and final end force is 2.30 pounds, making it suited for low-force detent and location applications.
This spring plunger is typically used in jigs, fixtures, machine tools, and light mechanical assemblies where repeatable positioning or detent action is needed. The standard plunger length type and compact 3/32-inch projection keep the profile low, allowing installation in tight spaces. It is installed by technicians and machinists working on precision equipment, tooling, or assemblies that require controlled spring-loaded contact points.
Designed as a standard threaded spring plunger for use in any assembly or fixture with an 8-32 tapped through-hole or blind hole of sufficient depth to accept a 5/8-inch thread length.
Installation is performed by threading the plunger into a pre-tapped 8-32 hole using the appropriate driver or wrench on the body hex or slot. Power down or de-energize any assembly before servicing spring plungers in live equipment. The locking element should be engaged after final positioning to secure the plunger against vibration-induced loosening. Do not exceed the rated end force by forcing the plunger beyond its designed compression range.
