The GIBRALTAR SW10-1AFS-G is a short-type threaded spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and light-duty holding applications in mechanical assemblies. It features a 6-32 thread size with a 3/8 inch thread length and a maximum plunger diameter of 0.046 inches, making it suited for compact installations where space is limited. The steel body and steel nose provide durability in repetitive-cycle environments. Initial end force is 0.50 pounds and final end force is 1.50 pounds, giving the plunger a defined spring travel range. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and assembly line maintenance personnel are the typical installers of this component.
This spring plunger is used in light mechanical assemblies requiring repeatable detent or locating action. Common applications include jig and fixture construction, machine tooling, and precision equipment housings where a small-diameter threaded plunger is needed to engage a mating recess or groove. The short plunger length type suits installations with minimal axial clearance. No locking element is included in this configuration, so thread retention relies on the mating threaded bore and assembly torque.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded spring plunger for use in any machined or tapped 6-32 threaded bore requiring a short-projection steel plunger with light spring force.
Installation is typically performed by machinists or mechanical assembly technicians using a standard hex key or screwdriver sized for the plunger head. Ensure the mating bore is clean, properly tapped to 6-32, and free of debris before threading in the plunger. Because no locking element is present, apply thread-locking compound if vibration resistance is required in the application. De-energize or lock out any equipment before installing or removing spring plungers in active assemblies.
