The GIBRALTAR SSWN10-8S-PT-G is a stubby threaded spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and light locking applications in mechanical assemblies. The body is machined from stainless steel, providing corrosion resistance in demanding environments. It features a 1/2-13 thread with a 0.75 inch thread length and a maximum plunger diameter of 0.248 inches. The nylon nose delivers a 5 lb initial end force and a 28.5 lb final end force, making it well suited for controlled detent and hold applications. A locking element is included to secure the plunger in the threaded bore after installation. Machinists, toolmakers, and mechanical assembly technicians are the primary installers.
This spring plunger is used in jigs, fixtures, tooling plates, machine frames, and automated assembly equipment where repeatable positioning or light detent action is required. The stainless steel body suits both standard shop environments and applications where mild corrosion exposure is a concern. The stubby plunger length profile keeps the installed footprint compact, which is useful in tight assemblies with limited clearance behind the mounting face. Single-unit packaging makes it practical for low-quantity repair and prototype work.
Designed as a standard threaded spring plunger for any tapped 1/2-13 bore in jigs, fixtures, tooling plates, and mechanical assemblies requiring detent or positioning function.
Installation is performed by toolmakers or mechanical assembly technicians using a hex wrench or spanner appropriate to the body drive feature. The mating component should have a clean, properly tapped 1/2-13 through or blind hole. Thread the plunger into the bore by hand first, then tighten to engage the locking element — do not overtighten, as excessive force can damage the nylon nose or deform the locking element. Confirm the plunger moves freely through its full stroke before placing the assembly into service.
