The GIBRALTAR GIB53047 is a round U-bolt designed for securing 1-inch pipe in mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC support applications. Manufactured from C-1010 steel with a hot-galvanized finish, this fastener resists corrosion in exposed or moisture-prone environments. The 5/16-18 UNC thread size and 2-inch thread length provide a reliable clamping interface for standard pipe hangers and structural supports. At 0.16 pounds, it is lightweight but built to handle the repetitive load demands of piping systems. Two nuts are included for immediate installation without additional hardware sourcing. Plumbers, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and mechanical contractors are the primary installers of this component.
This U-bolt is suited for residential and light commercial piping support installations. It fits 1-inch nominal pipe and is commonly used to secure copper, steel, or PVC pipe runs to structural members such as joists, beams, or strut channel. The without-mount-plate configuration makes it appropriate for use with matching channel nuts or direct-through installations where a backing plate is not required. The 1-3/8-inch width and 3-5/8-inch overall length are consistent with standard pipe support layouts in mechanical rooms, crawlspaces, and utility chases.
Designed as an OEM-style pipe support fastener for 1-inch nominal pipe in standard plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical piping support applications.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, or HVAC mechanics following applicable IPC or IFGC support spacing requirements. Depressurize and secure the pipe run before installing or adjusting pipe supports. Use the included nuts and tighten evenly on both legs of the U-bolt to avoid cocking the fitting against the pipe wall. Do not over-torque, as excessive force can deform the galvanized coating or compress the pipe wall on thin-wall materials.
