The GIBRALTAR GIB51555 is a round U-bolt designed to secure 5-inch pipe to structural supports in plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical piping systems. Manufactured from C1010 steel with a zinc-plated finish, this fastener resists corrosion in typical indoor mechanical room and commercial building environments. The 1/2-13 UNC thread runs 3 inches in length, providing ample engagement for standard hex nuts on a wide range of strut and mounting configurations. At 5-5/8 inches wide and 7-13/16 inches in overall length, the GIB51555 ships with four nuts included, ready for immediate installation without sourcing additional hardware.
This U-bolt is suited for use in residential and commercial mechanical systems where 5-inch pipe must be anchored to unistrut, beam clamps, threaded rod hangers, or fabricated support frames. Typical applications include large-diameter domestic water mains, HVAC chilled or hot water piping, gas distribution piping, and industrial process lines. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this style of U-bolt when a mount plate is not required and a clean through-bolt configuration is preferred. The zinc coating provides basic protection during installation in conditioned or semi-conditioned spaces.
Designed for use with 5-inch nominal pipe in standard inch-measurement piping systems. Compatible with 1/2-13 UNC threaded rod, unistrut channel nuts, and standard hex nuts of the same thread specification.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC or IFGC support-spacing requirements for the pipe material and content. Shut off and depressurize any pipe before repositioning or retrofitting hangers. Use appropriate wrenches to tighten nuts evenly on both sides of the U-bolt to prevent cocking the pipe off-center. Do not over-tighten on plastic-lined or thin-wall pipe without protective saddle inserts.
