The GIBRALTAR G56401 is a bench pipe combination vise built for heavy-duty trade work in plumbing, pipefitting, and mechanical shops. It features a 5-inch jaw width, a jaw opening capacity of 5.25 inches, and a throat depth of 3.75 inches, giving technicians the clamping range needed to handle a wide variety of workpieces. The vise handles pipe from 0.25 inches up to 2.5 inches in diameter. Constructed from ductile iron throughout, the G56401 is designed to absorb the shock loads that come with threading, cutting, and bending pipe at a fixed workstation. A swivel base allows the vise to rotate to the most productive working angle.
This vise is suited for permanent or semi-permanent installation on a steel or hardwood workbench in residential service shops, commercial plumbing facilities, and mechanical contractor shops. The bolt-down base attachment provides a secure, rigid connection to the bench surface. The combination design supports both flat-jaw work holding and pipe work, making it a versatile single tool for a busy trade bench. The swivel function is particularly useful in pipe threading operations where the operator needs to reposition the workpiece without re-clamping.
Designed as a bolt-down bench vise for use on standard steel or hardwood workbenches in plumbing, pipefitting, and general mechanical trade applications.
Installation is performed by a plumber, pipefitter, or shop mechanic using standard fasteners through the bolt-down base pattern into a solid bench surface. Ensure the mounting bench is rated to support the vise weight of 50.6 pounds plus the anticipated workpiece load. Refer to the manufacturer mounting instructions for bolt hole layout before drilling. Do not weld the base to the bench surface, as this may prevent future repositioning and void the manufacturer warranty.
